Using the Microsoft Authenticator App

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) helps keep your account secure by adding a second step to your login which is usually a prompt on your phone.

Follow the steps below to get set up. It only takes a few minutes!

What you'll need
  • Your work computer
  • Your mobile phone

Step 1: Install Microsoft Authenticator on your phone
1. Open the App store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android)
2. Search for Microsoft Authenticator
3. Tap Install (ensure you're downloading the official Microsoft Authenticator app as sponsored apps sometimes appear first in the list - They often charge a fee)

4. Once installed, don't open it just yet, we'll come back to it in a moment.

Step2: Open the setup page on your computer
1. On your computer, open a web browser
3. Sing in with your work email address and password
4. You should see a + Add sign-in method button

Step 3: Add your work account to Microsoft Authenticator
1. On the Security info page in your browser, click "+ Add sign-in method"
2. Select Microsoft Authenticator

3. As you have already downloaded the app on your mobile, click Next

4. Click Next again

5. This will show a QR code on your screen.

6. Now open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and press Add account or the + button at the top of the screen

7. Press Work or school account

8. Press Scan QR code and scan the code on your computer.
Step 4: Finish setup
1. Once the QR code is scanned, your account will appear in the app
2. Back on your computer, click Next
3. A test notification will be sent to your phone. Enter the numbers displayed on your screen to approve in the app.

4. That's it! MFA is now activated.

Tips and Troubleshooting
  • Make sure you're adding a Work or School account, not a personal one
  • If you don't get a test notification, check your phone's internet connection and try again
  • If you change your phone in the future, let us know. We can help reconfigure your MFA settings
